GCMA member David O'Sullivan
is the Manager of the China Fleet Golf and Country Club, near Saltash in Cornwall, and has been in the golf and leisure industry for many years.
David is also a key member of the GCMA Conference Planning sub-committee, and many of the points and views made in his article (click on More Details link) also formed the basis of debate and much valued input from other professional speakers at the National Conference.
David asked, "Can you afford not to be there? Can your Club afford not to embrace change?
GCMA member Mark Betteridge is the Manager of Yeovil Golf Club, Somerset. He has a great deal of experience as a manager in both the private and proprietary sectors. Mark is also a key member of the Conference Planning Committee and the issue he raised is the need for clubs to improve their services. Successful financial management remains the bedrock on which the future of the club relies, no matter whether it is owned by the members, a proprietor or a company.
Every club must learn how to give members and visitors not only what they want, but what they can afford.
Hard-earned money can disappear swiftly if the club is poorly managed, so there will be people who manage highly successful clubs (both large and small) on the platform giving advice on how they work.
